Valley Meals on Wheels has had many changes over the past year. One of the changes has to do with our name. Because we serve all of Spokane County, we found that our name, Valley Meals on Wheels, confused many people. On the other hand, for over 30 years Valley Meals on Wheels has had a rich history of serving the community, which we didn’t want to lose with a name change. In order to address both of these areas, we created the overarching name of Greater Spokane County Meals on Wheels. Valley Meals on Wheels is now a program within Greater Spokane County Meals on Wheels. As a part of Greater Spokane County Meals on Wheels, Valley Meals on Wheels remains unchanged. Valley Meals on Wheels is still the home delivered meal program that serves the greater Spokane valley. Also under the broad name of Greater Spokane County Meals on Wheels are our other meal programs, Lilac City Meals on Wheels, Cheney Meals on Wheels, Deer Park Meals on Wheels, and Silver Café. We will continue to serve our elderly and disabled neighbors throughout Spokane valley as we always have.
The most important thing for you to know is embodied in the old saying that “The more things change the more they stay the same.” Our mission to prolong the ability of elderly and disable persons to remain living in their own home is still the same. We still strive to ensure that no senior in our community goes hungry. And we still count on our volunteers, donors, and supporters to help fulfill that goal.
